As with many user-facing technology decisions, managers and team leaders need to consider the complexity of the work being done and the people doing it. Our results indicate that there are two key factors, or challenges, that influence how much benefits teams gain from collaboration platforms. The first factor is how well the collaboration platform supports the activities needed to integrate the team's knowledge despite geographical differences. The second question is whether team leaders can create conditions that promote knowledge integration in digital environments. The Ideal Collaboration Platform In organizations, team success requires adapting diverse individual knowledge bases and perspectives to specific problems and opportunities.
